I think a way to bring the sub-thread back on topic, avoid the social spending issues, is to focus on Obama's plan:
'His plan doesn't change the funding level into SS AT ALL' while 'reducing the rate at which some taxpayers are contributing' and 'robbing the general fund to do it.'
Oddly enough, this kinda makes sense. He's putting in a tax break for the lowest income workers. This would normally reduce funding of SS, so he's replacing it with money from the general fund. He's trying not to make the SS fund any more diminished than it already is. He has a plan to spend money, and a place to get the money from. Pay-as-you-go.
It works until you ask where the money in the general fund comes from, but that's a separate problem. :-) |
