Many others called/wrote their Congresscritters, too. I was also *against* so many of the aggressive "community lending" requirements the governments slapped on the banks. Banking is very competitive- if a loan can be remotely profitable, the banks would find a way. Hell, I qualify for those "low income mortgage programs" (albeit barely) and I still rent- because I knew I wasn't in a very solid position to buy!
In short, I along with many other Conservatives wanted the pinstripe f4ers to go to federal prison.
Now if EVERYBODY'S payroll taxes at subsistence level got waived, that would be a bit more "fair." But from what I can tell, Obama's proposal just extends the Earned Income Tax Credit concept.
The two kinds of taxes are meant for different things. Social Security taxes are *really* just social insurance payments, not taxes. Everyone pays in, everyone gets to take out. That's fair. Again, if the poor end up not paying actual federal income taxes, great- but don't turn around and just "refund" federal tax money they didn't actually pay in.
The "problem" with Obama's redistributive nonsense stands- you can't logically refund to people what they never paid in. |
