tax credits you qualify for. Most of them are "refundable" which means anything above and beyond your income tax burden can be sent back to you.

If that then goes above your SS Tax burden as well, then you just made out like a bandit.

Also, keep in mind the fact that low wage earners earn future SS benefits at a rate HIGHER than they contribute. Once you factor that in, then yes, it's more money.
