Yet another laptop question by oot2008-10-21 11:28:09
Here is what I think of your list... by kc5sdy 2008-10-21 11:58:16
The Thinkpads, I deal with daily.
Stay away from the T2x and Axx. Those are going to be around the 1-2Ghz range.

The T30 is a good work horse. It is the same as the T40 except the T30 has USB1.

The T4x's are good systems. I want to say the T42 or T43 is where IBM started coming out with their drive lockdown if the laptop sences too much movement in case of a drop.

The R's and X's are good. The R's we use in the field most of the time so I do not know much about them other than they are usually shipped with Celeron processors. The X's, I have seen a few. They seem to be good but, we have not had enough come through our doors to really form a good opinion.

As for the Toshiba's:
Back around 99-03, I was Toshiba certified on their laptops. I do not know much about them today but, from past experience, I could find little wrong with them. If I remember correctly, The Satellite Pro and the Tecra's are the same. The Tecra's are the business model and the Satellite Pro is the consumer version. That may have changed since then though.

I would say that you have a good list compiled. Again, I would stay away from the Thinkpad Axx, and T2x. If you can get a better deal on a T40 than you can a T30, go for the 40. Otherwise, the 30 will do just fine.
