Reliable laptop by oot2008-10-21 07:31:21
  You probably want a Thinkpad. by retiqlum2 2008-10-21 11:43:14
They seem to be the sturdiest in my experience. IBM had excellent service, but I don't know about Lenovo. The biggest issue for you will be service and support.

Cheap and easy repairs for a laptop: no such animal, sorry.

If you are going to be moving around that much get the super-duper extra-plus lucky warranty. When you buy replacement parts for a laptop you buy them. You can't swap them out and return them if you are wrong about which part was defective. Even if you can, that's extra waiting.

Make sure you have your data backed up regularly. More than once I've seen someone send in a laptop with a sticky touchpad (or some such minor annoyance) and have a brand spanking new computer returned to them with a nice fresh factory install.

Suggestion: whenever you move to a new locale, find out who the local certified guys are for your laptop and bring them cookies. That way if you do have a problem you can walk in and they'll fix it for you. Greasing a few palms this way is far better than being down for a week. Think of it as a warranty warranty.
