Of course, most philosophical discussions are attempts to persuade the listener of a belief of the speaker. However, the method of persuasion isn't fixed. If you don't feel my belief is persuasive, you're certainly free to reject it.
I'd certainly insist that "this is what is," and I can defend it by using definition and personal experience. That may be persuasive to you, or it may not; but philosophy isn't about making someone accept a statement. You're free to disagree - that doesn't in itself prevent my statement from applying to everyone. |
