a) there has been a republican president for almost 8 years now, the national dept is over $1 trillion (adjusting for inflation that's a >30% increase since 2000) and the economy is not exactly in great shape right now.
and
b) we keep getting reminded that this is the fault of congress as a whole and not just that of the president.

Given that I find it very amusing that the Republicans keep complaining about Obama's financial plans. It's not like he could screw up the countries finances any worse than they already are.

But you can be sure that by about June next year whoever has won will be blamed for the economy not being stunning. The minor detail that it's going to take years for things to recover no matter who wins should never stand in the way of a good party line.
