Danios and neon tetras are fairly inexpensive to most pet shops--replacing your lost fish and crediting the cost of the paradise fish sounds like a reasonable request, to me. You did ask at the store, didn't you, when you purchased the paradise fish, if the species was aggressive and if it made a good member of a community tank?
