Reliable laptop by oot2008-10-21 07:31:21
And one further question by oot2008-10-21 07:39:01
Macs have a huge strike against them. by da-gimp2008-10-21 07:50:28

If you want to keep warranty then repairs do have to be done at specific locations, true. Parts from Apple are very expensive, but I don't think any other laptop manufacturer is better at that; this is the very nature of laptops that oot doesn't like.

That said, my wife dropped her Macbook and cracked the screen. A little bit of research found a brand new screen for $200, incl. Shipping. My wife installed it with instructions on the net and it took maybe 2 hours, but we were trying to keep our baby from melting down at the same time.

Oh and the Macs have gotten way better from the old, original iMac days. These days even the laptops can be opened up easily (though the last gen Macbook Pro is a pain to install a new HD in)
