doesn't mean he agrees with the actions of the party. He may espouse their ideals (as he sees them) more than the ideals of any other party (as he sees those). It doesn't stretch the bounds of my credulity to believe that he can be a Democrat and still hold the beliefs he asserts in his essay. As an analogy, I don't believe that it stretches the bounds of credulity to believe that I can condemn the actions of members (or officials) of the Catholic Church, yet still remain Catholic. I see no reason to change my religion (which is an organizing principle of my life) simply because a bunch of people in the organization act irresponsibly. In the same way, if he feels more attracted to what he sees as the ideals of the Democratic Party, I don't know why the actions of a lot of its members would cause him to leave.
