They have an issue with their memory slots. I have had two Sonys, both worked great until they started not seeing their memory chips. From what I have found on the web, this is common problem with Sonys. They may have fixed it by now (my Sony is three years old), but since it seems to have been going on for a long time I wouldn't count on it.
