My old laptop was an HP and I had a lot of problems with the connectors not being firmly attached to the motherboard (ex. the power connector lost contact and would no longer take a charge.) I took it in twice and they finally fixed it permanently by replacing the motherboard. Fortunately it was under warranty, so it didn't cost me anything.
