As a tech, I've done hardware repair for pretty much every major laptop brand out there...and there is REALLY not that much difference between the various major brands. All laptops are pretty much "paper plate" computers...IE, use it 'til it breaks, than throw it away and get a new one. There's not a whole lot of repairs that can be done to them. Pretty much the ONLY generic parts in them are the HDD and the RAM.
Also, most of them are really only designed to last a year, 2 years at most. (Basically, the warranty period.)
I know a lot of people here HATE Dell. In my experience though, Dell laptops are pretty much the way to go, NOT for the laptop itself, but for the warranty & service. If you want the laptop to last 3 years, buy the 3 year warranty. The GOOD warranty (IE, the "Next-Business-Day" warranty). Sure, you may have to jump through a few hoops to get a tech & parts dispatched (your going to do that no matter what manufacturer you buy from). Dell at least normally does motherboard/memory/cpu parts dispatches when any one item seems to be going dead (keeps them from having to dispatch a tech up to 3 times).
And always remember you get what you pay for. The $200 laptop with the 90-day warranty is probably going to be just that...a $200 laptop that lasts 91 days. |
