| Some of you (like Jeff_UK for one) nailed it right on, and the rest of you were at least in the ballpark, from my amateur perspective. I am not an Intellectual Property lawyer, but I read a whole heck of a lot about IP, the laws surrounding it, and all of the associated BS coming from the big content companies.
Good rules of thumb I was taught: "Copyright" is the "right to copy" an expression of an idea. "Trademarking" is the right to control a mark (graphic, wordmark, servicemark) you use in trade, and a patent is the protection of a process. |
