A piece of Internet history by sazzer2008-10-01 02:51:13
I searched an old email addy, got 2 hits by josie_beller 2008-10-01 14:47:42
One was for contributions to a FAQ, and one was a challenge I'd issued to a fiction group to write a story "200 words or less with plot, character development, dialogue, action, and humor."

Now, that email addy was pretty darn active on Usenet, starting around 1990, so I'm guessing that the Google Search 2001 either doesn't include Usenet or only looks for stuff from 2001 in particular (not sure when I changed email addy). Can't remember what nickname I used in between that addy and the next one I could think of.

Searching my last name gets me ten pages of hits, which is a lot more manageable than the current number of results. There's a lot there, both from immediate family and more distant. Kind of a neat blast from the past, seeing what we were all up to then.

One thing searching old archives made me realize is that I was just as careless about putting my real name out there as kids these days are on FaceSpace. It just wasn't as easy to hunt down someone's past back then. Someone who knew what they were doing still might be able to find out just how much time I used to waste talking about Star Trek and other TV shows, and from reading my posts they'd glean a lot about my politics etc., or at least what my politics etc. were back then.
