Why is it that Chinese is considered a cultured, by hadji2008-10-01 14:12:05
Who says it's a cultured, intricate, complex lang? by Concept 2008-10-01 14:25:12
I'd argue English is more intricate and complex (maybe not more cultured :), with all our tenses, verb forms, slang, and colloquialisms. It evolves readily, too (some may say, too readily).

That's something I've wondered about character-based languages like Chinese -- how do they introduce a new word or handle neologisms? With English, you have a good chance of figuring it out from its stem or context. You wouldn't seem to get any clue from just looking at the character.
