Answer before lookup:
Copyright has historically been a protection for creators of works to profit by them. Trademarks are different in that they are not directly profited by, but instead are used for a company to stand out from it's competitors.

Answer after lookup:
I honestly have nothing to change, wikipedia seems to agree with me on both counts.

A disclaimer: While IANAL, I do have a fairly decent interest in law. My mother was a paralegal while I was in High School, and after joining the USAF as a programmer 6 years ago, I developed an interest in law. I've followed Groklaw fairly religiously during the SCO v IBM and other related trials as well. That said, if you'd asked me this question beforehand, I would have had very little clue.
