The oft mentioned claim that if the whole world is to enjoy a decent standard of living then the way in which each person acts must be changed (especially in the West) is not without merit. However, this organization is not adding anything useful to the debate. For instance, "Return to old-fashioned cooking habits urged" doesn't seem to be consistent with the later observation that microwave ovens use less energy per unit of food cooked than conventional stoves. In general, the assumption that the old ways were best is flawed. Try replacing all the cars and trucks with horse drawn carriages and wagons and see how far you get. Chairman Mao tried this sort of thing with metal production during the "Great Leap Forward" and set China's economy back 30 years.
