That piece is far too emotional to be of much value other than emotional. It's designed to elicit sympathy, regardless of anything else.
On the one hand, we're supposed to feel sorry for the child and sympathize and empathize with him, but he also demonstrates that he's petty (" I did not particularly care for Fakhouri. I took pleasure in pronouncing his name "Fukyuri.")
He also says "No, it's not better this way". But lets consider -- Had the child survived, what then? She goes back to her parents, and possibly to suffer another round like that, or she gets foisted into the foster care system, which is ... mediocre ... at best. She'll grow up with strangers, trying to find a place for herself.
At best, he might say "No, it *may* not be better this way".
If he's trying to make the point I think he is, he's failing. All I got from that piece was an overly emotional blog by someone who thinks themselves noble, but can be quite childish and petty at times, and has a very narrow world view.
Of course, that's going based off of only 1 entry, but as that's what we've been asked to consider, that's what I considered.
