"Budgeting," for example, is sort of an abstraction. The kind of budgeting I do for myself and my family is significantly different from that done by a national government. Since my family can effectively budget *for my family*, and my family is an economic unit smaller than the government, my family should be responsible for that budget. On the other hand, since we can't effectively budget for the nation, we should not assert that function. I suppose what I'm getting at is that function cannot be understood without context.
I'm not sure how I might adapt the thesis to reflect that assumption - apparently it's not as obvious as I thought it was. |
