I just read the following comment in this article. Concerning their potential customers, the studios said in their request for a restraining order:
"Why...should I pay $18.50 to purchase a DVD when I can rent it for $3.25 and make a permanent copy?"
Now, I'm all for protecting the integrity of the copyright owners. But it seems to me that the studios answered their own question. Why should a consumer pay $18.50 for a DVD? Could it actually be that DVD's are overpriced for their value? Maybe the studios ought to look at their business model and try to figure out whether or not their properties are worth what they think they are.
