Right now it looks like the Democrats are going to gain in the House and Senate. The Democrat platform states:
“We recognize that the right to bear arms is an important part of the American tradition, and we will preserve Americans’ continued Second Amendment right to own and use firearms. We believe that the right to own firearms is subject to reasonable regulation, but we know that what works in Chicago may not work in Cheyenne. We can work together to enact and enforce common-sense laws and improvements, like closing the gun show loophole, improving our background check system and reinstating the assault weapons ban, so that guns do not fall into the hands of terrorists or criminals. Acting responsibly and with respect for differing views on this issue, we can both protect the constitutional right to bear arms and keep our communities and our children safe.”
Tells me right there that
1. They don't support DC v. Heller
2. They will seek to ban some of the most popular sporting rifles today based on appearance. Rifles that directly apply to the idea of a "well regulated militia"

Heller v. DC was decided by one vote all 4 'living document' justices voted against Heller. I have no desire to entrust Obama with the responsibility of appointing 1 justice.

The only long rifles suitable for home defense are the ones Obama and the Democrats state they will ban. The most recent ban they tried to push called not for just a ban, but confiscation as well. As an aside the Swiss are issued a SIG SG550 a Democrat Assault weapons ban would deem a Semi-Auto only variant of this rifle unsuitable for posession by American Civilians regardless of whether or not they are veterans. The real SG550 is unimportable due to civilian sales of fully-automatic weapons being banned in 1984.

Any remaining long rifles that are left will be labeled "Sniper Rifles" and banned as well. Check out the Violence Policy Center website for more information on that.

Attempting to compare other countries firearm crime to the US is a Red Herring. It ignores the most fundamental difference between the countries compared which is culture. Even then studies exist which show that many European Countries with strict gun controls and almost total bans on ownership have higher incidents of gun related violent crime than other European countries that have fewer controls and more gun ownership. It ain't the guns it's the meatbags holding them that's the problem.

how do you imagine that the Supreme Court would have the authority to invalidate any part of the Constitution, when their mandate is to judge the laws, with the Constitution as the supreme law of the land? Kelo v. City of New London comes to mind.

In my previous post I stated: "A method that has been employed 17 times since it was first ratified." Which is correct as the first 10 amendments were ratified with the Constitution. Without those 10 amendments it is very likely the Constitution would not have been ratified.

I'll be happy to supply any documentation to support the above you need tomorrow. Now it's TTGTB.
