Roger was not even on bass yet when he was with Sigma 6 aka The Screaming Abdabs. He was lead guitar, and backing vocal. Rick and Nick were on the same instruments they used with Floyd, though. The lead singers were Juliette Gale and Keith Noble, and when they moved on to other projects, Sigma 6 broke up.
Actually, from what I recall from Nick's book, Juliette and Keith were the only members of Sigma 6 who were even really all that good, and maybe Rick with his past training. Roger and Nick were still rather mediocre at that time.
With the disbanding of Sigma 6, Rick, Nick, and Roger decided to form a new band with Chris Dennis and Bob Klose, called The Tea Set. Chris was the lead singer, but soon left the band and was replaced by Syd Barrett. This configuration of The Tea Set/The Pink Floyd Sound remained pretty well right up until Bob left the band to pursue his academic studies. (If memory serves, he was being rather heavily pressed by his parents into completing his studies in architecture rather than playing in a band.)
It was shortly after this that the first studio album, The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn, was recorded.
