What is wrong with a concealed carry ban? Does that not leave open carry? Of what? Obama has endorsed a complete ban on handgun ownership. (link)

doesn't an assault weapons ban still allow for handguns, long rifles, and shotguns? First you have to define an assault weapon. In one attempt, which Obama is on record as having voted for, even posession of most single shot and double barrel shotguns would have been outlawed. (I'll have more on that in the next Ordnance Corner)

What's inherently wrong with a "living document" interpretation? Haven't the United States changed over the past 232 years, and shouldn't our interpretations of the Constitution therefore change to include new developments in technology and society? The problem with a "living document" interpretation is you lose consistency. Many claim that the Second Amendment should have been invalidated in Heller v. DC rather than upheld as guaranteeing an individual right to keep and bear arms. Developments in technology and society were used as supporting arguments for invalidation. What they failed to realize is that those same arguments could then be applied to all other parts of the Bill of Rights. Most importantly the First Amendment.

Fortunately the writers of the Constitution were forward thinkers and included a method for adapting the Constitution to current times. A method that has been employed 17 times since it was first ratified.
