For example, there was no mention of any potential alternatives to using the lakes for tailings. At all.

Now, I'd presume that there are alternatives. Likely more costly ones. Which means that the profits to the mine owners will decrease. Possibly even to the point where the mine will shut down. And any economic benefit to the area will disappear.

Which simply raises the question: In a case where there is a choice between benefiting an area's economy, or its environment, who should choose? The mining corporation, or the people?

I know what my answer is. And I suspect that this issue may be heavily influenced by the upcoming Federal election.
