...you should take a page from the BOfH and visit your HR wo/man. Request a sub-clause stating that, should you be denied resignation after so-and-so date, you will be paid in overtime rates for as long as you are still held in the company. (Get a higher pay if you have leverage.) At least your "new boss" seems to be the clueless type--you should have some fun with him!
