"void the warranty". Use the internets to look up the parts you find, what they do and why(the how is optional). In a single day a true geek of even the most minor caliber can learn what they would in a week of college on the same subject; perhaps not quite as completely, but the knowledge gained both sticks better and seems somehow clearer.
