The Evolution of Geeks - Discuss by Hieraco2008-09-15 13:13:13
I think that often, by aprylmae 2008-09-15 13:25:57
geeks are still somewhat social outcasts and loaners. At least I am. For example, most of my non-geek "friends" rarely talk to me if they don't need my help with something. Hubby is far more tech-savvy than I am, so he gets more requests for said help, but again, many of the people coming to him rarely talk to him when they don't need the help.

But, geeks now are more fortunate, in that it is far easier for us to build our own virtual communities, where we can feel free to be ourselves, without the social repercussions that go with it.

Geekiness is becoming more accepted with time, but I still see where the smartkids, nerds, geeks and such are not treated as well as a lot of other groups. Especially for the younger generation. Maybe by the time my grandkids come around (better be a long frelling time) it will be even better. I hope so, for their sake.
