The Evolution of Geeks - Discuss by Hieraco 2008-09-15 13:13:13
Background: Tyop and I were talking last week, and he mentioned how the status of Geeks has changed since we were...well younger.
In our day There were math, physics, philosophy, chemistry and electronics geeks (to name but a few), but all were considered loaners and social outcasts.Tormented by the more `normal' kids.

As advanced electronics and computers entered into the popular culture, geeks became in demand for complex tasks such as setting the clock on the microwave, and programming the VCR to record Miami Vice.

Now days, Geeks are behind the scenes keeping things like Myspace and Facebook on the internet for the rest of the world to keep in touch. The Geek is no longer the pimply faced kid in his mother's basement, but a proud badge of technical know-how. Every time someone's computer crashes, A geek's Phone will ring, and dinner or booze will be offered in the same reverance that medicine me used to get offered chickens.

So in the future...your children's generation or grand children, What will define a Geek? How will they be viewed by society at large? What will be their strengths and weakness?
