What's the purpose of "outside"? Without knowing that, all I can offer is children's book type help with the concept. Get a book that covers tall/short, big/small, over/under, etc. Try Richard Scarry's Best Word Book Ever. It still sounds more like a language issue too. If we don't have words to define inside from outside sufficiently for you maybe our society doesn't consider them significant. Or context plays a very important role.
