I got one of "those" mortgages by voxwoman 2008-09-15 10:56:38
the difference being was I am good for the money. I'm very glad I didn't have to prove my income when I got the loan, because I wouldn't have passed the test (being self-employed). But I didn't overextend myself, and I haven't missed a payment, even when I was carrying TWO mortgages.

I'm rather peeved at the bailout as well. However, having a lot of vacant, foreclosed-on homes isn't going to help the economy in the short term and that's all anyone looks at anymore. It will cause a big downturn in the housing market (bigger than what we've seen already), which will cause more people to abandon their homes, which will then slow down new construction which then puts even more people out of work, etc..
