The issues I see involves more the imprecision of English, or it's usage, than anything else.

Yes, a brick has an inside. If split, you see the inside of the formally whole brick. If you'd like to declare these pieces as bricks themselves, you see their outsides. Usually, the youngest surface will be distinguishable.

Is this brick special in some way that you cannot identify the outside?
