Lehman Brothers files for liquidation. After an all weekend emergency meeting at the New York Fed, no rescue, and LEH is gone. Bank of America in merger talks with Merrill Lynch, offering to buy MER outright at $29/share, which values the 94 year old firm at a paltry $40 billion. Now Washington Mutual (the largest U.S. Savings & Loan) is teetering on the edge of implosion.
Lovely. Think I'll give my advisor a call and ask him to shift my 20% in U.S. equities over to, I dunno, Mongolian ones. |
