I read it because it was assigned in school, and fell in love with it. That was the same reason I read the Martian Chronicles for the first time. I'm pretty grateful that my 9th grade lit teacher was a fan of a lot of the sort of books I really like. In 11th grade she assigned us Watership Down, but I explained to her that I had just finished reading it for probably the 7th or so time. She let me just take the test and read whatever I wanted so long as I passed.
