If raw sockets were such a threat, why aren't worms taking advantage of the multitude of <insert other OS here> that still use raw sockets? The threat was never raw sockets but rather vulnerable code on those machines running raw sockets, enabling them to be zombified. For some of my work-related uses, disabling raw sockets has been a significant PITA.
