Seems EA have paid some attention to the DRM by sazzer2008-09-15 02:09:05
Sorry EA, but I'm not buying it. by ShadowSystems 2008-09-15 04:24:29
Figuratively OR Literally.

"
A first for the Command & Conquer series is that Red Alert 3 will no longer require users to insert a disc to play. In addition, if owners need to install the game more than five times, EA Customer Service will be on hand to supply additional authorizations on a warranted case by case basis.
In his closing paragraphs, Chris Corry said of the issue, "Red Alert 3 is shaping up to be a world-class RTS game that will give you many hours of enjoyment. I think it would be a shame if people decided to not play a great game simply because it came with DRM, but I understand that this is a very personal decision for many of you and I respect that. As you might imagine, I'm a lot less respectful of those people who take the position that they will illegally download a game simply because it has DRM."
"

Dear Mr. Corry.
It won't matter if RA3 turns out to be the best game of the century.
The fact that it's using SecuROM & DRM to limit what I may do with my legally purchased property, means I will NEVER support you with my money.

You've made it so we don't need the cd to play?
Oh goodie, thanks a bunch.
Not like we couldn't get that in thirty seconds from a Google search a week before the official launch of the game.

You're releasing it with SecuROM/DRM?
Not like we can't get a cracked copy days before the official release, and it will probably run BETTER than the legal copy.

You just don't GET IT, do you?
We, your customers, DO NOT WANT SECUROM NOR DRM.
We want to play the game, we WANT to pay you money in order to do so, but if you insist on treating YOUR PAYING CUSTOMERS LIKE CRIMINALS, then we won't BE your paying customers.

If you give us what we want (no SecuROM/DRM), we'll give you money.
If you treat us like scum, infect our computers with known root kits (SecuROM), and try to limit what we can do with *OUR PROPERTY*, then we'll return the favor.
And yes, Mr. Cory, it IS *ours*.
It's not a lease, not a rental, not a license, it's a SALE.
Once something is legally mine, I can do what-ever the [CENSORED] I want with it.
As long as I'm not making copies & selling them, or claiming the product is of MY work, then there really isn't squat you can do about it.
And that includes ripping a copy to my hard drive as a virtual cd so I can put the original back in its box & keep it safe from harm.
You know that Fair Use Archival Copy I'm allowed to make?
Right, so stop trying to keep me from enforcing my rights.
Your SecuROM/DRM prevents me from excersizing my legal rights, so guess who wins?
Me.

Because either I get to do what I want with it once I've bought it, or I won't buy it in the first place.
Either way, I win.
So if YOU want to come out a winner in this, too, don't treat me like a criminal.

I purchase games I think I'll enjoy playing YEARS from now.
If you try and keep me from using that which I've paid for, I will do everything in my power to correct that situation.
If that makes me a pirate, it's YOUR fault for restricting MY Rights in the first place.

So release the game with OUT the SecuROM/DRM, and we'll happily buy millions of copies of the game.
But treat us like criminals, and we'll do the very thing you're trying (completely ineffectively) to stop.

See how that works?
I hope so.
Because you're not getting another penny from me until you do.
And I'm not the only one who feels this way.
