They need right of way and what if they need to drill over there(points) to go around some really hard rock formations? Not to mention the cow that the EPA has over any drilling operation.

To the companies, it is an Asset and you do not sell off assets you might need in the future as well as the property is valued at more $$ physically owning it over time as opposed to the short term gain in selling it.
