Drilling. Will it help? Opine. by carthax2008-09-02 13:25:03
    Short term (next 5 to 10 years) yes. by Classic_Jon 2008-09-02 14:03:31
As a means to get past the turning point to be less dependant on oiland move to different energy solutions, yes. As a long term solution, no way.

I also have to say I think that the Oil companies should drop the $$ on new refining facilities so that in 10 years we will be able to use the new and more efficient refineries instead of the ones built 30 and 40(ish) years ago....

I have to agree with some people to a point that the oil companies are not using land they already have access to and know Oil is there BUT you also have to take into account the difficulty of getting to that oil and getting it back out and what that infrastructure cost will be to do so in the long run. If it will cost you 3 million to get to it and only net you 6 million when you can spend 3 million elsewhere and it will net you 17 million...which place do you think they will try to get to first....

People have to realize that anything energywise that is done today will take at least 5 to 10 years to start making it's presence felt effectively. Companies have to tool up and make things differently for hybrid and pure electric cars. All Companies will have to put in infrastructure to support doing things differently and that just can not happen overnight...at least until we get nanobots or transporters :)
