Why reward a sense of entitlement? by Illiad2008-08-27 16:53:13
It isn't. It is ok to want it. by hej2008-08-27 17:02:14
Well sure, but wanting it... by Illiad 2008-08-27 17:11:04
...is a long step behind taking it without compensation. If a recording artist wants to give away their music for free, that's their prerogative. It's not the prerogative of a fan to take the music for free, or to assume that since they never intended to pay for it, that it's okay to take it and enjoy it with complete disregard for the wishes of the artist.

And no, you're not "entitled" to read UF or use this site if I decide that I don't want anyone consuming my content without paying me cash first, or if I decide that Europeans have to dance on one foot and sing "Camptown Races" before they visit the site. :) That's the contract. The contract here is: please enjoy the content, download it if you like without using an abusive script, view the ads or at least let them be served. In this way I "entitle" you to using UF. You (collectively) aren't entitled to hammering my servers with a nasty wget script or similar.

All legalities aside, it really just comes down to respect for one another. I respect my audience, and I hope that respect is returned for the work I do.
