From Dave Ramsey Set aside $1000 for an emergency. Pay off any debt (like student loans) starting with the highest interest rates. Increase your emergency fund to include 3-6 months worth of expenses. Note: If you plan to buy a house, do not do so until you are at least this far and can put 20% down. Put 15% of your income into an IRA each month (or whatever retirement vehicle is used in your country). Save for childrens' college. Pay off house early. Build wealth and give.
