| titles of works that are typically bound individually (books, periodicals, manuscripts, albums, etc.) are italicized. Portions of these that are referred to separately (titles of chapters, articles, songs, etc.) are referred to in quotation marks (when quoted in-line) or without any extra formatting (when quoted in a bibliography).
Other manuals of style (Chicago, GPO, MLA, or style guidelines for specific disciplines) may have different results - but Chicago, MLA, APA, and GPO are the big ones. (Which order you put them in depends on what you're writing.) |
