Doesn't it come back to harm? by bitflipper2008-08-27 08:52:49
For the bonus question: by MatthewDBA2008-08-27 09:47:03
True hedonism is self limiting. by oldphart 2008-08-27 09:56:54
If everybody lived by hedonism (sorry to introduce a touch of Kant here, but it cannot be helped), the consequences of other free agents' reactions to your pleasure-seeking would obviously impact your future pleasure potential. That would not prevent the system from working long term, it would just create an equilibrium. Stupid hedonists would soon be bereft of their pleasure, while the smart ones would avoid harming others in order to maximize their own future pleasure and benefit. Hedonism is much more viable than it has been made out to be.
