Very long term data backup by SnArL2008-08-27 07:43:42
Very cool, but I wish they hadn't used Genesis by Arachnid2008-08-27 08:19:16
I suspect it was for that reason it was chosen. by SaylorA2008-08-27 08:23:53

Something authored specifically to aid translation by Arachnid 2008-08-27 09:01:38
Eg, a dictionary mapping common words in different languages to each other (they have that), sentences and their translations developed to show how grammatical structures in different languages compare, etc. I'm no linguist, but I'm sure one could come up with a good document specifically designed to act as a 'cheat sheet' for understanding the many languages involved.

With the remaining space, include encyclopedia-style articles about our cultures and technology, information on common storage mechanisms and the information required to access and decode them, and some of our best known and liked classical literature. This part doesn't need to be translated into every language on the disc, since it serves a slightly different purpose.
