The problem I see with that is that the placebo effect is not guaranteed to work - your scenario may result in the patient actually getting worse, and (in the worst case) refusing any kind of medical intervention (including palliative care) because "they told me this would work, but it didn't, so why should I trust them?" Does the potential for this, or a similar, result make that lie unethical?
