Back in the mid-nineties I was told I should not divulge the agency I worked for (DERA) to anyone, it wasn't that I was doing anything hush-hush, but they were worried about their staff being compromised by security forces from other countries and/or industrial espionage.
It wasn't like a cover story or anything like that, just if someone asked, you'd tell them somewhere else.
I dunno if that was the ethical thing to do, but since "I cant tell you" would be even more interesting to interested parties than the truth, then truthful denial was not an option.
