new computer help needed (repost) by chaotic 2008-08-27 05:32:15
this is kind of a repost or rather follow-up to this post.

I thought a bit what I need from my computer. I need an office computer, I use it for web surfing, some coding and occasionally some image editing (cropping, resizing...). I rarely play any games and no new games (younger than 1 year) at all. The computer needs a graphics card because I have (or will have soon) two flat screens for it.

My husband looked for a computer for me and this is what he would buy me: (all prices are in Euro)
Intel Core 2Dou E7200 Box 99,- (never had a pentium before in my self-bought computers)
Asus P5B P965 56,-
Kingston HperX Kit 2048 MB RAM 41,-
Asus EN8500 Silent 512MB 49,- (I don't have any experience with Geforce cards)
Samsung SATA II 250GB hdd 37,-
Samsung SH S223F DVD burner 25,80 (I didn't know DVd burners are that cheap)
That sums up to 308 Euros, without a case or a power supply.
A good case and power supply can be found in my current computer and I can live a few days without that when the new parts are being built in. The power supply in my computer is a 480 Watt one iirc.

My questions now are: Does the computer run well with Ubuntu Linux?
A quick google for the graphics card didn't give me (on the first page) any mention of this card together with Linux, so this fills me with hope that there are no problems (known).
What do you think about that configuration? What would you change (and why)?

Thanks for the answers yesterday and for the answers that come today.
And thanks ripley8 for his other post too. I'll compare this config with yours in the evening.
