... obtain a permit to conduct a protest in one of the "Free Speech Zones". It was a farce, and made absolutely clear just how impossible it was for anyone to obtain such permission. Chineese nationals who tried didn't necessarily get a chance to finish their application, before being charged with some offence and sent to "rehabilitation" -- or is that "re-education"?
