between 18 and 30 years of age is when most people undergo a lot of personal development. It really depends on the people in question.

For example, I'm 31, 32 in 4 weeks. I couldn't even think of dating anyone under 25 years old, and even 25 is iffy. Of course, being a grad student and a TA I am always *surrounded* by people in the 20-30 age range, so I know what to expect (on average) at any given age. Typically I don't anticipate being able to relate to anyone under ~27 years old. (or some very astute 24 & 25 years olds).

Ok. I seem to have digressed. Yes, go for it and "feel your way" through it. You're older than she is, but you're still VERY young yourself and have a lot of life to live and learn yet yourself. May as well live it up now :)
