Have you checked so the drivers on the main system is the correct ones and not generic? Is the disc in main PATA or SATA? If PATA check in device manager that the disc-controller is set to "DMA if available" and that DMA is used. (XP and 2k have a nasty habit of limiting controllers to "PIO-mode only". Some NICs that support 10/100/1000 can be a bit schizophrenic.
