I was at the photo store today and looked at the D300 with 18-200mm VR lens. Very nice user interface but DAMN SKIPPY! that is one heavy piece of kit. (compared to my Pentax *ist) When I get one (not if) I'll be needing a new gadget bag as well. I have to head back to the store with a CF card so I can run off a few shots at various settings to see how it performs. (what's with the L1, L2, H1 & H2 settings for ISO? all other ISO settings are given in number values) Anything else that you recommend I look at on the D300 when I get my hands on it?
